Dr. Brooke McGinnis
Dr. Brooke McGinnis’ practice focuses on increasing the connection with one’s inner self through the exploration and processing of difficult emotions, experiences, and beliefs. She believes her role is to act as a guide in this process of working through whatever difficulties life has presented for clients. To do this, Dr. McGinnis practices evidence-based, emotion focused psychotherapy that is heavily anchored in the philosophy of dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, both of which developed out of the foundational, fundamental teachings of cognitive behavioral therapy.
As a psychologist, Dr. McGinnis believes that therapy is a powerful, complex, interpersonal process that helps individuals learn to accept oneself and one’s life as it is (even if it is not the life you want), in order to begin actively moving towards a life that provides deep meaning, fulfillment, and sense of purpose. She specializes in working with trauma, attachment issues, emotion regulation difficulties, obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphia, women's issues, sleep difficulties, self-defeating behaviors, and adjustment concerns. Dr. McGinnis is passionate about her work and is inspired by her clients’ stories of growth, healing, and change. Dr. McGinnis believes that gaining an honest and compassionate understanding of one’s true, authentic self allows for an unfolding to occur that leads to a greater enrichment of life and the blossoming of calm, centered, inner peace with oneself. Clients of Dr. McGinnis appreciate her gentle nature, accepting stance, genuineness, and relatability.
